I’m Roger Shuman and I'm running for Mayor because Harrisville has always been home to me. I grew up here, I’ve lived here most of my life, and I care deeply about the future of our community.
With years of experience as both a resident and an active community member, I understand what makes Harrisville such a great place to live. My goal as mayor is to preserve those values while guiding our city toward a strong and sustainable future.
A Voice for All Citizens – I believe government works best when it listens. As mayor, I will make sure your voice is heard and your questions are answered.
A Thriving, Affordable Community – By attracting and supporting the right kinds of businesses, we can strengthen our economy and keep property taxes low.
Smart, Responsible Growth – Growth is coming, but it must be managed wisely. I will work to ensure development benefits our residents while protecting the character of our city.
Harrisville is more than just where I live—it’s who I am. I want to make sure it continues to be a safe, welcoming, and thriving place for all of us, now and in the future.
Open Communication – Improve the way our city government communicates with citizens, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Financial Responsibility – Use tax dollars wisely and make sure spending reflects the priorities of our community.
Economic Growth – Attract quality retail and local businesses to strengthen our economy and keep taxes low.
Smart Planning – Make thoughtful, responsible decisions about property use and development.
Safe, Affordable Living – Keep Harrisville a safe, welcoming, and affordable place to live and raise a family.
Inclusive Community – Involve every neighborhood in city decisions and activities so everyone feels connected and represented.
Accountable Governance – Ensure city codes are consistently followed, or updated when necessary, so they serve residents effectively.
Yes, I will be responsive. You may not always like my answer but I will be honest about the position of the city. I will try as much as possible to answer everyone's concerns and will try to follow the majority of city residence.
I can not guarantee a cut property taxes. But I am very conservative and believe in being efficient with the funds we have to operate on. I will commit to doing everything we can to drop unnecessary spending while trying to provide the necessary needs of the residents.
I will respond to as many questions as I can. If we as a city government elected by the citizens can not give reasonable answers I will recommend to table a vote until we have answered questions and have the majority of residents supporting the action.
No I cannot refund property taxes. I will do everything I can to not raise property taxes every year. I will commit to that.
I believe the city needed a larger public works building however I believe the building that was built was an architecture trophy and extreme overkill for the size of our city and the needs of our city even going out the next 50 years. The amount of debt the city is being strapped with could be disastrous. There does not seem to be a real straight forward answer on really how much debt we will end up with this is one of the largest concerns I have in taking on the responsibility of representing the citizens of Harrisville.
